The tertiary population in many countries has
changed considerably in the past ten years with
considerable implications for teachers. Today,
thousands of students for whom English is a second
or even third language are enrolled at
English-speaking tertiary institutes. Some are at
universities in English-speaking countries. Others
are studying through the medium of English in
their own countries. Both groups depend on their
English language skills to help them achieve
academic and professional success. This book
addresses all tertiary teachers in institutions
where English is the medium, whatever their first
language. Tertiary teachers are now asking how
they can be better prepared for their teaching and
their interaction with students from many language
and ethnic groups in a multicultural tertiary
institute. This book aims to be part of that
preparation – to help good teachers to become
better teachers.
